Roosters – Brighter colored comb and waddle. Saddle feathers are more pointed. Longer more curved tail feathers. Bigger legs with spurs. Colors are more vibrant. Cock-a-doodle- doo. Hens- Smaller comb and waddles. Rounded saddle feathers. Squawk, cluck. Show a picture of a rooster and a hen.
Most hens will lay 1 egg per day. It takes a hen 24-26 hours to create an egg. Most chickens will slow down on egg production during the winter months.

One method: Ahead of time leave an egg on the counter for a couple days prior. Fill a bowl with water. Use a refrigerated egg and the one from the counter and place them in the water. If the egg sinks it is fresh. If it bobs around on the surface, then it is bad.

Backyard chickens are becoming more common and there may be someone in your church or in your area that has chickens and would be willing to allow you to visit or possibly bring one to an Adventurer meeting to show. If not, YouTube has many good videos about chickens
